Cobra XRS-R9G : GPS Technology for Speed and Red Light
Camera Alert
Improve Road Safety and Awareness
At the inconvenience of motorists, many cities are now employing the use
of speed and red light cameras throughout the nation. Installed in
high-accident intersections and excessive speed zones, speed and red
light cameras are designed to reduce accidents and speed violations
while generating millions of dollars in revenue for the states that
use them.
These
cameras are usually mounted on poles near the intersection or an
unsuspecting location on the side of the freeway. They are designed
to provide photographic proof of a traffic violation that can be used
against the “accused” in court. This typically results in a few
hundred dollar fine or even license suspension in more extreme cases.
Conventional
radar detectors are not able to detect these speed and red light
cameras because they use a method other than radar or laser to
determine a vehicles' speed. Since these methods do not use radar and
laser signals, they render a normal radar detector useless for
warning their presence.
Cobra's
solution to this problem is the all-new Cobra XRS-R9G radar and laser
detector with built in GPS receiver. This new GPS feature alerts the
driver of known speed and red light cameras through Cobra's extensive
database of confirmed speed and red light camera locations. The Cobra
database includes thousands of “blackspot” locations, including
speed and red light cameras, construction zones, school zones and
other dangerous locations that are updated daily and can be easily
uploaded on the XRS-R9G via USB cable.
The
GPS technology of the XRS-R9G allows the driver to be warned of
approaching speed and red light cameras. This gives the driver time
to adjust their speed and prepare for potentially heavy braking from
cars up ahead, over-reacting to the unassuming speed traps. A 2007
study shows that intersections with speed and red light cameras
installed have a 27% increase in rear-end collisions and overall
accidents on average.
The
Cobra XRS-R9G retails for $449.95 and includes a GPS receiver that
mounts on the windshield and a full-color wireless remote that
displays radar / laser alerts and warnings. Along with the XRS-R9G's
full-color display, which is great for displaying speed and red light
camera locations, it also includes Cobra's voice alert system for
audible alerts of detected threats so you never have to take your
eyes off the road.
Along
with the GPS features of the XRS-R9G, this radar detector also
includes all the features of Cobra's high-performance units.
Including features like 360 degree radar and laser protection against
all current radar and laser bands, voice alert, strobe alert, and
much more to list.
Cobra radar detectors come with a one-year warranty.
